I wanted to run a random swatch/comparison of some pinks that are a mix of old and new, blogged and unblogged. Enjoy! (all are top coat free)

China Glaze Sass in a Glass

A rich, glass fleck formula. Soupy-ish. Big three rich. This is from the same collection that has "It's 5 O'clock Somewhere" in it. That's all I really know.

It's got a metallic micro glitter/glass fleck in strong pink magenta jelly. The most red of the bunch.

Four coats used and a pretty shade. Hard to argue with this one!

Might be around blog sales or eBay, it's long since discontinued.



Sinful Colors Forget Now

Three coats, easy formula and a strong blue shimmer that really turns my head. Blogged before, but wanted to compare.

I always think I want to purge this one, but I really love it a lot. I never know if SC has a color, has renamed it under a repromote or not. It is pretty and worth looking for.

This should be around, though I can't imagine why they'd discontinue a color like this.
I know it should be around online, too.




Zoya Mae

Three coats, a beautiful shade, but man, it was a hard polish to apply. I think I ended up moving it along. Or it's in the move along box. Hard to recall.

Plus it felt sheer, although it is rather luminous, it's too hard to work with.

L'Oreal Pink Shell

I love this one so much. A reblog and because it can work as a topper I always think it's too sheer, but it's really not, it builds at three coats and just rocks.

A favorite.

I am sure available online (I just looked on eBay and youch!).

It's a strong glass fleck shimmer, which is really a win.

Red Topper Duo

Orly 15 Minutes of Fame

Well.

I picked this up at TJ Maxx. Fairly excited by both flakies and holo in this jelly polish, I was keen to try it.

I put some over black and some over white, but neither impressed.

The components to the eye when I have the bottle in my hand are exciting: jelly base, flakies, holo,  and glass fleck.

Yet I really felt like it was not finding the right venue for this polish. I think a vamp red or maroon might be a better choice.

I might reblog it.




SinfulColors Devil's Stare

Two coats over both black and white.

This is another rare foray by Sinfulpolish to go into flakies.

I have to admit their offerings are very popular.

This is not a mylar flake like Red Ocean (or Green Ocean, for that matter), but not really a true flakie. It's like they processed the flakies into smaller bits this time around, which helps because there are no bits that want to pop up perpendicular to your nail, or hang off the edge. Nice!

I think you can see it around the web sponge manicured because if you want density, that's what you have to do.

I like SC, they are a cheap brand that does a good job with colors. I tend to steer clear of their shimmers, but like their cremes and glass fleck.

I like it best over a lighter color, but the jelly base is super strong on this one.

I think over a similar red, or a maroon, or violet red it would be very nice.


To conclude, both of these polishes weren't making me roar.

Both can be found online with some poking around, though Devil's Stare is easily found on ebay.

Glitters of a Similar Nature

I think you've figured it out by now. When I first started blogging I was really into grabbing the really beautiful polishes I'd seen online and wasn't even sure if I love them or not for myself.

I've had Amoresse Mambo Madness for about 6-7 years and just balked at blogging it. I don't know why!

It's a heady silver holographic glitter tinted with a lavender base.

My iPhone doesn't do it justice.

This has gone the way of the Dodo, though. BUT, not that you couldn't franken a silver holo glitter into something super similar.

I think you can get a similar ride out of Color Club Sugar Plum Fairy (blogged here)


Also if you can find SinfulColors Top Me Off, you are in a good way, too.

Although it's not a wall of holo, it's a pretty holo shade. It's pretty much a topper (hence the name) and it's also doable as a three coater.

I think what sets it apart is the combination of purple with the holographic. Similar, but not a total substitute.

I don't check the SinfulColors Displays as often, so I don't know how often they have this one, but if you are after a holo/purple topper you may want to take a peek.

Layering Surprises

When I layer polishes and discover something completely new, it really makes my day.

The base is a franken I made from a polish called Revlon Snow Bunny (blogged here) that ended up looking like a dupe of China Glaze Blue Island Ice Tea (blogged here)  but less sheer.

A blue that I made from adding some Pacific Blue and a few other things, but ending up a pale glass fleck that was quite pretty.

Here's the result:

This is two coats, but it really covers, so I have a lot love for this little glass fleck bomb.


Then I added about 2 layers of SinfulColors Pinkie Glitter. It's an iridescent small and micro glitter in a bright pink jelly base.

Suddenly my polish was a beautiful blue lavender. What? Hello!

I loved this so much I wore it for 3 days then redid it and wore again for another four. Wow.

Topped it all off with Cover Girl City Lights (akin to Revlon Holographic Pearls) and couldn't stop staring at it for the whole week.

The thing is that you can see how it goes from blurple to a lavender. This photo doesn't show the change as well, but you can see that two to three coats really seals the deal.


The best part, that isn't imparted in my photos is that the glitter layers and plays hide and seek beneath the holo topper.

Mesmerizing.

Stamping Subtle and Bright

Hi Sweet People!

I've been super lazy these days: job change and spending more time on MUA than here, my bad!

Here is a variation on stamping for those who like stamping, but aren't sure if they have polishes that will work.

I am currently working on a page with polishes that do stamp well, also experimenting with ways to get old polishes I don't wear to turn into stamping polishes. I will update you on both results sooner than later, but the latter is still more experimental, where the former is just a matter of getting my booty to write things down more consistently.

I'v got a pair of polishes that I do like, Sparitual World of Compassion - a necessary time in this world we live in - and SinfulColors Dream On.

First the subtle:

Sparitual World of Compassion is a definite three coater, but not a laborious one. A quick dry top coat finished things off well. I have Zoya Caitlin and CC Boho Chic which are virtual dupes so I am full of this soft, blue leaning gray. It's a classic. Hard to top this color if you like a cool gray.

I stamped with the Cice Sisi plates set 1 using SinfulColors Dream On.

Be assured I won't call Dream On a stamping polish. It is too sheer.

Even after I leave the cap off for a half an hour, I don't see much change with density.

Yet it isn't a failure, either: Color comes through even over gray.

My biggest concern is that I can't seem to get a solid image off these plates, even after multiple attempts at stamping and with both a Creative Stamper, clear jelly stamper, and squishy jelly stamper.   Whether the pattern is fine or wide - like this one - I get some patchiness.

I am rolling my stamper onto the image and I am gently scraping with a credit card sized scraper.

Still in the experimental stage.

One other thing about Cici Sisi plates: if you have bigger nail beds rejoice, the patterns are scaled up, so I only get partials of this big teardrop pattern.


Now for the brighter version of this stamping:

As my camera is croaking, this pulled a bit more cool, but also with the silver it did as well.

I mixed this no name L.A. Color polish with Dream On on the plate and together it offered a bit more pop than just Dream On alone.

It makes a huge difference. Some people like subtle stamping, I do, it's very pretty to see the same tonal ranges vary just a bit by hue, but others like impact.  The silver pulls the Dream On out of the shadows.

You will notice, too, that the stamping isn't as patchy as with Dream On alone. Go figure. I am blaming the plate and my technique when it could just be the polish! :D

Hope you enjoyed! I wanted to share this fun experiment. While Dream On isn't my favorite stamping polish, it is a pretty color, so it may just go back into the stash as a regular polish.

Lavender and Pink

Here are three polishes, two new to the blog, one a reblog for a comparison. Enjoy!

Here is SinfulColors Zeus:

It's basically their Lavender polish loaded with a pink shimmer.
Three two coats.  A lot of win with that shimmer.

I then compared it to Nicole by OPI's Back to Reality...TV

I am kind of surprised how little oomph the NOPI has with regard to shimmer within the creme base. SC kills and NOPI just sits there.

I think that SC is a thicker polish and two coats versus a necessary three on the NOPI.

Plus and minus is that NOPI is a little bit easier to manage and control, but I really don't think it's a big deal.  For me the color payoff with the shimmer up front and ready is more important.


I threw in Essie Using My Maiden Name, but not to really compare.

Of the trio, I love UMMN a lot. The brighter, less muddy lavender that peeps into purple is perfect for spring.

I've got three coats on here, but no complaints on the formula.

I've heard, and now witness, that the shimmer is hard to find on the nail. This angle only barely revealed it. That is the one failing of a very pretty polish.

Where to buy
Essie UMMN is easily available on line. UMMN was all over TJ Maxx for awhile, so it's readily out there on eBay, etc.
NOPI BTR...TV is harder to find because that was a limited edition collection a couple years ago. It's not inexpensive, but of the pair, much harder to find.
SinfulColors Zeus was part of a 2012 Castaway collection  (Thank you Nouveau Cheap for your excellent blog on drugstore items, a great resource in the polish world!)

Of the trio, I think Zeus is the most challenging to find, as I don't think it's out there in their main line, and much harder to find. I had little luck.

My personal favorite is Zeus, but Essie UMMN has a great bright hue and the shimmer is ok for me, I can always goof around with toppers.

Green Green Comparison: Glass Fleck

I know I tend to back burner green for most of the year, but I really wanted to check out some stuff I've ignored far too long.

First up is SinfulColors Kissy

Three coats and a pretty glass fleck gold in a rich emerald green jelly base. 

I found this randomly at Walgreens and have ignored it for a long time. Very pleasantly surprised.

You can see via lack of clean up, it wasn't awful, that was just me adding too much and getting a bit of pooling. I'd call it user error rather than a difficulty with the polish.

Elianto Racing Green

Three coats, again, and here the base is more of a true green, but pulls more yellow in the presence of the generous gold glass fleck. It also tips into emerald around the edges, so it isn't just a flat color, bonus!

I worked like a yeoman to get this polish, it is a Korean brand and I never did find a US seller, so I did eventually find a blog sale.

I love both colors, but I have to admit that the Elianto really has a gorgeous depth to it.

I was going to do an either/or on keeping these, but truly it's a "both" because they are quite beautiful.

As far as finding Elianto, good luck. I see no sign of it even on eBay. Plus they are onto a new bottle design and this color is nowhere to be seen on their website (but many great colors are there and I need to try them!!!)

SC Kissy was in the core color rack at my Walgreens. I am sure it's been out there in the special displays as a color for St. Patrick's day or some other collection. It's actually a nice shade that holds up next to my beloved Elianto.

Ethereal Blurple

It's hard not to love a pastel this time of year.

With the trees and spring flowers blooming, it's really quite easy.

Here's a quick comparison for you:

I am going to make a call: dupes.

So if you are a dedicated SC fan, you can find a dupe of this luscious alexandrite shade.

I think it is a loosely associated copy of an Alice in Wonderland sequel shade, because the display had funny looking people and some card suits. I saw nothing that really screamed "AiW" but now that I think about the display, it seemed akin to a copycat scenario.  I found mine at Walgreens, which has truly become an awful place to shop for nail polish so I rarely go.

In any case, this is a beautiful little polish that can pull a bit gray in tungsten lighting, but if you are outdoors or inside in color corrected light, it will definitely pull blurple.

Flip Flop Stamping

Here are a teal and a mint that are easy to find and affordable, too. Better still they stamp!

When you stamp over a deep color with a light color, often the light color turns deeper. Visa versa when it comes to a dark color over light.

I'll say it again: I love this combo! (too!!)

You can see how the L.A. Colors Seafoam loses it's green tone over SC Blue Crushin and how SC Blue Crushin turns from blue into teal.

The plate is from Pueen, Sumptuous Gallery, plate 09, and the peacock feathers work perfectly with this shade. 

I love both a lot, so it's hard to pick a favorite. 

L.A. Colors is at Dollar Tree in a huge quantity in my 'burg, so it's easy to find. SinfulColors has a good presence in most stores. I think this is a standard shade, but if it's not, it absolutely going to be re-promoted at some point, trust me on that!

Baroque Stamping Part 2

Of course when word - and images - trickled my way about the Born Pretty Mirror polishes, I had to try it out.

It's a taskmaster: must have a ridge filler, must NOT use a top coat, and a lot of shaking involved.

I did not achieve true mirror, for me it ended up like a normal chrome, but I do believe that with adequate base layer smoothing and no top coat you can get a mirror.

Meanwhilst....

Here is what I did with mine

This is two coats and with a top coat.

I used SinfulColors Endless Blue - a very nice stamping polish.

Plate is Pueen 76 from the Leisure Buffet collection.

I would say that it needs a reblog. 

The Born Pretty set comes with a base coat. I think it's akin to an aqua base.

It's quite affordable, which is good if you missed out on that little run of old Maybelling Mirror Mirror polishes that seemed to percolate around eBay and blog sales, etc.

Indian Teal

Pantone captures this color very well: deep blue that inches towards teal, but doesn't push into Mallard blue territory.
Nice.

I've got three that I'd like to share.

Here is a star in its own right: Zoya Kotori

Three coats, no top coat. It's a beautiful shimmer swimming in a black base.

Here's another shot that shows how sheer it actually is:

After I wore this, I moved it into my toppers: it's a huge win in that department. Three coats does work, but this one has legs for other tasks and I didn't want to waste it on a multi-coater since Zoya no longer makes this beautiful polish.

A real loss, it's a favorite.


Here are some comparisons.

I found NYC Electric Nail Glossies at the Dollar Tree ages ago, but for some reason haven't blogged yet. It's a generic vamp that has this Indian Teal shimmer.

Here it is in comparison to Zoya Kotori.

It's the size of the shimmer, Kotori is bigger, and the black base, NYC's is deeper.

NOPI Too Rich For You is more shimmery, perhaps a larger size particle versus the uniform size of the NYC.

Both read vampy, though, because they need a lot of light to show off the shimmer.

You can find NOPI on eBay and other places, but it's not inexpensive. There is a SinfulColors dupe, I blogged it here along with NOPI Too Rich For You.

Of the three Kotori is a bit more of a unique polish. It will build and it will layer, so it's got a lot of versatility. Kotori is available online, just not at Zoya (naughty, Zoya, naughty!), and somewhat cheaper than the NOPI. I can't find the NYC online, not to worry, though, the SC dupe will fill all gaps, save the one left by Kotori!

Turkey Gravy and Cranberry Dressing

Here are a couple of polishes that share one topper, thought I'd see how this turned out.


Sally Hansen New Lengths Metro Creme

Kind of a turkey gravy shade, perhaps also an Army khaki. In any event three coats and still a touch on the sheer side.

I found this at the Dollar Tree back in "the day" when a huge bunch of these New Length and Hard As Nails and Nylon polishes were all showing up.

I can't say it's a super fave, but it's unique. Just need to add some giblets (I hate giblets, but who doesn't think of the word giblets and giggle just a little?)

I did add SinfulColors All About You

This is two coats of SC All About You.

I blogged it here, and it's a pretty little glass fleck number that just is so darn cute!

I think it improves this polish, and as an "on the go" polish All About you yields a good result.



Sally Hansen New Lengths Rich Plum Creme

I don't get plum, but I sure get cranberries! My favorite part of the meal!

Three coats, and a beautifully rich shade that stand alone.

But I did add some SC All About You

Robust, indeedy!

Two coats of SC, and it's much warmer.

Love it? Not sure, but I do think it's time for a second piece of pumpkin pie, any way you want to cut it!

I wanted to add a water marble I did with similar colors:

It's a "gravy" tan (SH Snappy Creme) and an old SH vamp, whose name I forgot (label off), and Max Factor Momentum Moss.

Sort of a gravy, cranberry, and peas thing going on. I guess I'm hungry for some turkey!

Bar Glitter, It's a Love-Hate Thing

I have to admit that of all the glitters, bar glitter seems to evoke a reaction that even dime-sized circular glitter, bleeding glitter, or too-scant glitter seem to miss out on.

SinfulColors Faceted

Two coats, no top coat.

Personally, I love it. This one is particularly a nice one. Purple small glitter in a clear base with iridescent bar glitter.

At this angle the glitter appears pink and lavender. In the bottle you can see that it iridesces green and yellow.

Here you can see a bit more of that on the nail, but for me what is so neat is it's shift into magenta as well, that I didn't really see in the bottle. Plus, the yellow green isn't quite as pronounced a this angle.

I love this polish a lot. I did not need to thin it, nor did I have to fish for glitter. Best of all the bar glitter reminds me of Fat Tuesday or something fun like that. It's just a super color combination with the purple.

So, if you think you want to try bar glitter, or like bar glitter, or just love iridescent glitter, this might be a good $2 investment.

Sinful Colors Topper Duo - And A Bonus

SinfulColors asked if I wanted to review some polishes and I said "why, yes, indeedy!"

I received three glitters from their Bloom Blast collection and two toppers from their Flight Patterns collection. Although reading their site, I see they have these on another collection called Color Burst, so I think it depends on what the displays are named. (Now that I look at it, I see the glitters are in two collections, too.)

All right. You all know I love to layer and lament the loss of CND Effects. But. If you like to layer, then you might want to check into these.

All of these are two coats over black. No top coat.

Flight To See

This is a beautiful purple shimmer that is very juicy. 

There is no color shift, and it's a very nice topper. I think it was late when I swatched and somehow my cleanup didn't pan out the way I wanted, eep.

Sheer Flight

Gorgeous green shimmer. Not as blue toned as the bottle, however over navy or cobalt blue, it will yield a gorgeous combo. This is a favorite of mine. 

Bonus: Let Me Go

I thought this would be a renamed Bali Mist when I bought this a few weeks ago. I'd had Bali Mist then got rid of it, but wanted to keep a topper with that purple thing going on.

This isn't Bali Mist at all, it's a teal to blue shifting shimmer. 

If I examine my collection I know I've got something similar in my old Sally Hansen Opals, but this formula was super nice to use.

The first two were sent to me for review and I purchased the last one at Walgreens for $1.99.

SinfulColors Bloom Blast Glitters

SinfulColors did send out an email in February and offered bloggers an opportunity to blog about their polishes. I emailed back and got a few. I'm breaking it up by collection.

The SC Bloom Blast consists of 5 colors, two of which are existing shades that I am familiar with:

Glass Pink and Sail La Vie. The other three, Energetic Red, Tempest, and Island Coral may be existing or new, I don't recognize them, but Tempest seems familiar to me color-wise, if not name-wise. 

There are three glitter polishes which are, to me, rather exciting. Glitter in a crelly base that garners inspiration from many an indie.

All are three coats, all have no top coat.

Flower Power

Mix of magenta, pink, and white glitter in the traditional hex shape and also some small glitter mixed into this pretty bouquet of a polish.

Pretty pale pink crelly provides decent coverage.Enough to cover your nails but also translucent enough to let you see the glitter in the lower layers. 

Standing Bloom Only

Pretty orange crelly with a red glitter base. 

I think down the road I might add a bit of white to this. I love it, but it feels less like spring and more like Suzi Visits Satan's Fiery Pit of H.E.DoubleToothpicks. 

Like chrysanthemums in the early autumn I don't feel spring. 

Petal Be The Day

Love. this. so. hard.

While the lavender crelly base is somewhat, er, weak, the blue and lavender glitters are as beautiful as can be.

I'd wear this over a pale purple of any stripe and the glitters would be perfect. Of the three, this one has the most "invisible" base, which can be great for layering.

Shamrocks On The Green

Green of a special variety.

When I think of green, I think of this: intense, pure, and no-no-doubt-about-it-green!

Dance Legend 377

Three coats

Lovely rich luminescent bright green.

My camera made it more dusty, but it's a winner.

No top coat, very glossy.

Purchased at the Llarowe sale, so nice - both the sale and the polish!

I recommend just browsing their site for the sheer eye candy.

Take a page, polish sellers: you don't need a flash heavy site! Just give a bottle shot and a couple of tasty swatches. 

SinfulColors Shamrockin'

I will admit that the large flower glitter needed some fishing, but this wasn't too painful. 

I like the combination of white and pale celery colored glitter. Best of all these are matte glitters.

Here's another photo with the SC bottle. I just thought I'd throw it in:

I think if I had planned a bit better I'd have turned the bottle upside down for a while and let more glitter slowly move toward the top before doing the mani, would have helped with the fishing of the large glitter.

I do wish there was more density on the smaller glitters. This is two coats

I believe at this point I put a top coat onto the whole thing, as the flowers are flat and my nails curve and well, you can imagine there was some incongruity.

Found this at Walgreens and it was a fluke because their selection in my area is sparse for new stuff.
It's a pretty little thing and may still be out at drug stores. I know there are similar indie polishes, but $2 is hard to beat. This further illustrates the influence that indies have on mainstream polish brands.

SinfulColors Valentines Day 2015 Flirt With Hearts Collection

SinfulColors, from my experience, sends bloggers - at least bloggers like me - an email and asks if we'd like polishes to review. If I don't email back very quickly I miss out, which happened once.

This time I got my reply back and picked four polishes. Voila! They arrived and I swatched them!

Pinky Glitter

This is three coats over pale pink.
My base is very pale and somewhat sheer. It mitigates the staining below.

A bright, fresh nearly Barbie pink chock full of iridescent glitter that shifts pink, amber, and purple.
It's a girlie polish that I love. I think I could do this polish over a deep vamp and you'd get the pure iridescence and the base would be less apparent.

Like my good ol' SC Pearl Harbor, it will eventually need some thinning, but it's a lovely polish. Hard to fault a good iridescent glitter, isn't it?




Dream On

Dream on....

Ok, I seriously will admit to listening to that Aerosmith tune on Kasey Kasem's American Top 40 back in "The Day".

Meanwhile back to SinfulColor's Dream On.

A bright orchid purple that finishes in a satin rather than a glossy finish. This is three coats. It's a bit sheer, and you can see my stained nails peering through and warming up the bottom half of the nail. I think next time I'll put the same nude/pink base I used beneath Pinky Glitter.

I blogged Dream on a few years ago here. It was a bit more of a magenta, and when I first brought my old bottle out of the drawer I was convinced it faded.

I habitually mark the bottom of my bottles after I've swatched them. The top mark on the bottom of the lefthand bottle was made when I first swatched the polish back in 2010. The mark below is right after I swatched it again. So it has faded into a magenta pink from a purple pink.

Since I can't go back in time to compare, I still think the new Dream On is a much more purple polish. Hard to say.

I topped Dream On with Love Sprinkles.

White hearts in pale pink hexes and smaller white glitters. I dabbed the glitter on with the flat side of the brush, but I didn't have to dig around to find enough glitters, which was nice.
I enjoy a white glitter, only have a handful, so I'm glad to have this one.




Decadent

This is a deep magenta red glitter. Hex and small glitter here over white.
Another nice addition. Fairly dense, two coats here. Not a "wall of glitter" but good coverage.
A very traditional glitter. I do like the color quite a bit.


There you have it, a handful of SinfulColors from the Flirt With Hearts Collection.
The whole collection has 8 polishes, with a couple of repromotes that I'm familiar with like Dream On and Rise And Shine (there may be more).

I've seen this set at Walgreens and Rite Aid, I would imagine it's at Fred Meyer and Kmart, too, but I haven't been to those places to confirm.
Also, I was hoping Red Ocean would have been part of the clan, but alas, it was not.
