Layla Hologram Effect Part 2

Here is part 2!
For part 1, please click here!

Here's a recap of my previous post:

How they apply

1 - All of these are three coats - a must.
2 - Chipping -because of the rigidity of holo pigment, a good layering system helps with wear:
     Normal mani
     Add top coat
Top off with another layer of polish
3 - Flame and top coats - Layla's flame is sensitive to top coats, I've watched while holo flame                  vanished with top coat application. The layering technique in 2 helps.
4 - Balding - these will pull up pigment with a second coat. I used a ridge filler and had no issues.

Back to the swatches!

Layla Hologram Effect 05 Jade Groove

A very pale neutral green. It almost looks like a silver, but it's a green. They came out with a better green in their second batch, called Emerald Divine. I'd recommend this if you love a seafoam type of green.

Layla Hologram Effect 06 Mermaid Spell

A gorgeous light blue. I think it ranges from a soft periwinkle almost to a peacock. It's a pastel and it's beautiful.

Layla Hologram Effect 07 Ocean Rush

Bright medium blue. More color pigment this time around and it really pops as a blue polish.

Layla Hologram Effect 08 Flash Black

A favorite. Black holos are hard, but this is really a charcoal due to all the holographic pigment.
I love how it has such a warm golden flame. It has the full rainbow, but the cool shades are more diffused.

There you have it.

I did try some stamping with these polishes, but didn't post. These work out very nicely as stampers, some are stronger than others, so I need to get a post together on that aspect, too. Coming soon!

I came in to polish from a time when the concept of stamping with a holo felt extremely wasteful with a rare commodity. Well, times have changed. I love stamping and I really think it's time I played with some holos!

Layla does not have these polishes on their site, so I am sure they are discontinued. Even they knew the formula was tricky with pulling up on a second coat (they sold a buffing stick that I didn't use), so perhaps they couldn't support it in the way they liked.

I like them a lot, they are traditional holographics, with a few twists, and a strong holo presence.

They are priced competitively on eBay and some crazy price points on Amazon. I'd prowl eBay.
(I have a few listed on my mom's auctions, too, for full disclosure)

Noisy Nubbins

Back in September I had to trim my nails super short. Super short. While I wanted to grow them out, I didn't want to just be quiet little nudes, so I made a little noisy upstairs neighbor of a party out of them:

It's a photo from my phone, but I want to share it because it's a fun mani!

It's a basic black creme, Pure Ice I layer in a couple of coats mixed with the Milani striper nail polish that is not good for stamping.

I topped it with a silver chrome, OPI My Silk tie.

Finally hit it with China Glaze Fairy Dust for light catching sparkle.

The plate is a Bundle Monster set, I've posted before. Bundle Monster Spring Buffet set.

I love the swirlies, like watching a snowstorm through your window on a deep winter evening. I hope we get a few of these. It's been a warm, warm autumn. Scary how warm.

Pink Roses

Wanted to reuse a plate I'd posted about here. It's the XY11 plate (still available on eBay with a quick search using XY11 and narrowing down the category)

It was full of interesting things and I thought these negative space roses were super nice!

Good ol' CND Raspberry Pink stamped with WetnWild black creme.

My new stamping polish, for sure!

I love how the roses pop.

Golden Rose Reblog

I wanted to reblog a pair of polishes that made me frustrated when I first worked with them here. Pretty poor formula was my experience.

Perhaps, though, this is a moot point, as GoldenRose's USA site is impossible to navigate to w/o a weird redirect, although their Facebook page is front and center.

Meanwhile...

GoldenRose 119

I've since let it evaporate a bit and thinned it with OPI thinner.
This process means I leave it uncapped anywhere from a few hours to a few days. It also requires nice weather. So, it definitely is a summer activity! Sometimes I thin just with thinner, other times I add a clear polish. This was a quick evaporation project.

OPI thinner is a low-ingredient-count thinner that has been a true stand-by for me.

This is two coats over black. Pure and simple: love it!  Taken under bright sunshine, as it favors only sun and doesn't play well under lamps.

Scattered holo over black = yummy!!!

GoldenRose 102

Same concept, evaporated and thinned.

Three coats alone. Mercilessly requiring sun, and even then just playing the innocent "who me? holo? what?"

I can't tell if this is a silvery lavender or a whitish blue. Still, very nice!

More Layering!

Layering: a treat!
Especially those elusive sheers polishes that start out in the bottle "WOW!" and get on our nail and sputter out.
Creative Nail Design has a whole line dedicated to putting the wow factor back into sheers, they have heavily colored polishes as a base and then some sheers that are varying finishes: pearl, shimmer, etc which you put on as a top layer. Good idea!

Since I have umpteen polishes, and about 1/umpteenth of those are sheers, I better get busy!

I used WetnWild Black Cream, two coats that dried very quickly, and 1 coat of Elle Elle #434. Of course standard top coat: Vinyl Shine DT Score. The base coat was only Borghese Magnetico. I think I went ape and bought 8 bottles at Ross. yoiks.

See how pretty that polish is? Put in on alone and it's just sad. Add the black and Ziiiing!

Neat-o!
