Lynnderella Forget You Not

Periwinkle and glitter.

The cold is inching in and I have to admit I have trepidation and excitement: it is supposed to be a snowy winter, but I am excited because I think we need the cold weather.

Duality has it's pros and cons.

Lynderella Forget You Not over American Apparel T-Shirt

Breathtaking and delicate, like crocuses emerging from the snow.

This is two coats over American Apparel T-Shirt.
Large, small, and micro shimmers wiht pink and blue among the two shades of blue glitter. This is a gorgeous polish.

I will add though, that somewhere there is either glitter bleed or there is something murky about he formula. T-shirt is a pure white, but the base has a gray tinge that doesn't seem intentional. I decanted some of it and added thinner. Well see if it stops the bleed.

Good luck finding this one, long since discontinued in the Lynderella pantheon of glitter polishes, I can't think of a dupe, or anything similar. Well, except for a discontinued Cirque glitter that is a pretty periwinkle blue called Orphelia

Like a mountain flower, it's time might be short, but it's beauty is hard to surpass.

May I give a shout out to American Apparel T-shirt?

Two coats on my ridge-tastic nails and look at this???? Holy WOW!
I am on the hunt for more of this discontinued polish.
No streaking, no ridge filling base coat. I think I did slap it over a bare nails, though.

Moving on...

Lynderella Forget You Not over NYX Purple Dream

Here you can see the difference between the glitter colors: one more lavender and one more periwinkle.

I thought NYX Dreamy Purple had been blogged, but apparently not.

One thing I will say is that Forget You Not has a touchy formula. Not as bad as that green one I blogged a while back, but working on being very slow to dry, even with a quick dry top coat.

Beautiful, but tricky to dry if not patiently attended to, as it re-wets dry base coats and will cause smudges.

NYX Paradise

Remember when NYX nail polish was hitting it hard? They had a "girls" line and a "salon" line (with Deborah Lippmann type of bottles). Now they have packets and themes, and they don't get great reviews on their own site. Wow.

Times change.

I've had this polish rolling around in my stash for some time. I spilled some, lost the label in a drawer, and thought I'd blogged it, only to find that it was unloved in a bunch of teals.

Meanwhile, it's really a great topper!

I've put two coats over my current navy, Borghese Mezzanotte Blue, it's a creme that is dark as can be, but just short of black.

Here it brings out this golden yellow shimmer that normal swims in a pretty blue base.

I've put three coats alone and it's less stellar of a polish:

Though the color combination is very unique, it is sheer and you can see my nail beds, which are stained. Worse, for me, is that my nail beds are changing the color of the top half of the nail polish until you get to the whites of the nail.  I think that a fourth coat might have made only the tiniest of difference. A nude base - or some "lingerie" - would have prevented the color shift into this weird orange territory.

I have filed it under "topper" and think over a turquoise or bright blue, it could be a stand out.

Meanwhile, this will do nicely!

Thank you so much for reading my little nail polish journal!

Marvin Gay Said it Best

I bet you're wondering how I knew,
'bout a polish with such a hue.
Sitting on the sale rack,
thought I'd pass on it but I came back.
Now it's a three coater that could do two,
it has a gorgeous pink that's cast blue.
WetnWild's [heard it] Through the Grapevine.

Hey, that's what you get growing up in the early 70's and your best friend's dad had one of the finest soul/funk collections on the planet.

Ok, this was a Megalast color that WetnWild put out in these eensie teensie bottles some time after they'd abandoned their tall rectangular bottles of a full 15 mL. These 9 mL bottles barely caught my notice, but I did see this one on the sale rack and had to have it.

WetnWild now has a new iteration on the Megalast bottle. On eBay there are a ton of this color in the new bottle. Not sure if it's still at the drug stores or not!

Next I took a bottle of NYX Girls polish, CN244, a deep gray glitter and popped a coat over it:

Sadly NYX dumped that line. Even before they stopped it, this bottle with the little faux diamond that is so cute was an earlier version of the "girls" line until it was finally a goner.

Man, I miss these NYX girl polishes. I don't have many, but every one I do have is such a win. I don't have a cool gunmetal glitter except for this one. It's fabulous. Of course in our current trend of crazy cool glitters, this one may seem tame, but it's pretty unique as far as glitter shades.

Clear base and a medium sized hex. Nice!

I love how it pulls light purple on the red-purple of Through The Grapevine.

Three Purples of a Violet Nature

It's the end of the year and I notice that a lot of bloggers are pulling together their "best of" lists. Always a real pleasure to see those. Watching folks winnow down to a handful of greats truly relaxes my collecting urges. I always see a few I'm glad I passed on, a couple I know I will rustle up over time and a couple that I need NOW! ;D Of course, I always see that some of my faves  are absent, but then again, that's how it goes, no?

Personally, in my bloggy arc I'm hitting up some polishes I've had for a long time and remain untried. Not sure why, but it's important to try them out and either fall in love again, or decide to let them go.

Here are three violet purples.

NYX Techno

Three coats of pearly prettiness.
I've had this one for a while, I don't know why I haven't tried it, it's great!
Luminous for a spring polish, not really a post-punk color as the name implies.
Fresh and fun, easy to use, though I think a piece of something floated onto my middle finger as I was putting it on and it shows it up as a bump. Erk. Upside it dries quickly.
I haven't kept up on NYX polishes, but I do know they dumped their NYX Girls line on their website as well as repackaged their polishes into Deborah Lippmann bottles. I can't find Techno on their site, either. Hmm.
I know Beautyjoint has NYX Girls, but not sure about the old line of NYX colors.

SinfulColors Fiji

This one required four coats, and I wanted to hate it from the start. Yet. yet. When I finished it had this almost tropical orchid quivering in a blade of sunlight feel to it. Simply magnificent. I'd call it a pearly shimmer.
It's warmer than NYX Techno, and in its own right, a beauty.
It took a bit more tweaking to dry, however, which, in light of its sheerness, means a bit of extra work.
I think it's also easily available at any SC's display.

Nicole by OPI Virtuous Violet

Well, I will admit right now that when I first bought this polish, I got myself many backups. It's my favorite shade of purple.
Three coats, easily a two coater, but I popped on a third.
Great shimmer, and a vague implication of duochrome.
Virtuous Violet is a core color and it's a beaut!
Recommend that if you love purple, you should have this one.

Here is a comparison of the three:

Same order:
NYX Techno
SC Fiji
NOPI Virtuous Violet

You can see that they are similar, yet, well, different! ;D

Green-o-Rama

A little comparison of two greens, mainly because I feel like they are similar, inasmuch as they sit next to each other in the Helmer drawer!
All are three coats, all are taken with a lamp.

Maybelline Colorama Jaded

Yes, I did clean up! Yay!!
A tropical green with enough shimmer to knock you back on your heels. This is under a lamp, and it appears to have a bubble, which is a bit of a bummer, but I think my fault.

Though three coats, some faint visible nail line you can see around the edges of the finger on the right (ring finger).

An easy to use formula that benefited from some clean up, though.

I tried it over black:

The yellow has been dowsed and this very tropical green now seems to be the star of the show. Brushstrokes are more evident, but there is a bit more green, now. I love this color, alone or over the black polish, it really has its own personality.

Then I pulled out a new addition to the stable, NYX Luscious Green.

In this photo it is a pure green, not really any yellow in the sense of shimmer, but yellow undertones.

Another photo:

Oh! Here ya go! Much more intense, I feel like I've landed in the tropics and the sun is beating down on my head! Where's the sunblock!

I was told by a kind person on the nail board that this is a close dupe of the famously difficult to find China Glaze Moonpool. I can't tell, from what I can see, the Colorama seems to hit the yellow nail on the head a bit more, well, it makes a try. Hard to say without a comparison!

I did compare the two, though!

A classic case of their differences illustrating their strengths and similarities.

Both have yellow, on different degrees, both have a beautiful shimmer, Luscious Green feels like the shadow of Jaded in some forestry fantasy world made up of nail polish swatches.
Related, and yet, independent.
If there is a Moon Pool dupe out there, this is probably as close as I am going to get, unless I layer Jade over Luscious Green.

No pix, I just thought of that while I was blogging!
:D

Bottles...

"You are luscious!"                                     "You look jaded!"
