Chelsea Girl Gets A Break

I blogged the Color Club Poptastic collection, well the Ross set to be more exact, here, and found Chelsea Girl to be a bit sheer. I was not happy with it.

I pulled it out of the drawer because I wanted to try it again and give it another chance.

First I tried layering it on a normal clear base coat.

Four coats.
The topcoat situation plays out left to right:

  • No topcoat
  • Topcoat
  • No topcoat
  • Topcoat

Although it was easy to apply and dried well. I think it was a bit darkish, coupled with my stained nail beds, I think there was a bit of a green cast to the first few coats, so more coats were necessary. Hmm.

So I put on a white base coat...

Here it is with three coats.
Again alternating topcoats:

  • No topcoat
  • Topcoat
  • No topcoat
  • Topcoat

As you can see it pops the color up a notch. Nice!

Here is a comparison:

In some ways both really work. I like the depth with the clear base, but I love how the white base makes it feel like the Mediterranean Ocean on a hot August day.

Same number of coats: four for the non-white base and three for the white base.

I also think that a topcoat is a must.

Here is a bit of a closeup:

I feel bad about the knock I gave this polish in the previous review. In many ways, it's kind of emerging as the winner of the group (well almost compared to Warhol and Puccilicious it's hard to win on that front! :D)

Thank you for reading my little nail polish journal!!
