Is it the formula? Is it my application?
Clearly I'm the amateur here. I have over 300 polishes (ok. 309. Four OPI "Hey! Get in Lime!", a new Borghese base coat, and found a third Sally Hansen "Celeb City" in the drawer!) and not a whole lot of experience with nail polish in the first place, I find that I am just not doing it right at times.
The other day I had a Princessa "Melon" on. Three sheer coats. I then added a top coat and then Sally "Insta-Dri" drops. I then washed my hands. I then added a coat of a very sheer shimmer by Revlon "Grapefruit Glimmer".
Wow! What a combo! It looked like Texas Ruby Red grapefruit sprinkled with some sugar!
Disaster struck, and struck hard.
I schmootzed so fast my head was spinning. Down to the nail! Even after a top coat and a Sally drops.
Huh!?!?!
*breath*
I put something else on completely that dried quickly and made the world go away. :D
So today I though, let's try ol' Revlon. Again.
Am I flashing back to 7th grade where I always had these great revlon colors (like a frost white or mariner blue frost) that drove me mad? Perhaps I just forgot about the fun times of dancing to "Kung Fu Fighting" and "Do the Hustle" with my styling polish!
Today I rounded up a perfect autumn foil. I am loving these foils, metallics, and chromes. What's not to love about finger nail jewelry?
Three carefully applied coats of Revlon's Limited Edition polish "Bronze Ablaze" and I get a gorgeous copper. The copper of a penny that is not new but not old. Exquisite! Not a brush stroke problem, and really went on very well.
Put on a WnW quick dry top coat after each coat dried over 10 minutes. Perfect, no?
Almost. I had no bubbles, took a photo to add to the journal, and then let it sit.
I had to do a few things about 20 minutes later and found that I had schmootzed three fingers. Even after I added many more drops, I pushed back a corner! Oops!
So, what to do?
I tried the Elle Elle 433. It is a milky clear in the bottle with greenish gold glitter, small glitter. I think over a more subdued color like a creme, this would have been a standout, but it wasn't enough. So. I grabbed Sally hansen Xtreme Wear "Strobe Light" and the pink glitter and the holo glitter worked to mask the smudges.
Of course before I did all that massive drops and an ice cold wash in the sink to get the oils off from the drops.
Finally. I think at this point I've got:
1 coat Base
3 coats Bronze Ablaze
1 top coat
1 coat Elle Elle 433
2 coats SH Strobe Light
1 more top coat
___
9 coats of nail polish. ack.
Clearly I'm just not feeling the love for Revlon and the feeling is definitely mutual.
I have two more Revlons that are grays and I'm not sure I'm that excited about trying them b/c they are frosty metallics.
I will post a couple photos of this hot mess in a few hours. I have a lot to do and trying to nurse along a manicure is great if I am planning on watching an entire season of Mad Men on DVD in one evening. Otherwise it feels like torture!
