I learned to sew when I was 13. My mom taught me. I loved going to the fabric store and touching all the fabrics: soft velvets, luminous raw silk, soft georgettes and silks that seemed to sing. Then there was that section for weddings and evening wear. The fabrics sparkled and danced. Though, as a kid, I never really needed any of these fabrics, it was a blast to just go look at all these seriously grown up textiles.
