These are a few photos of the Maybelline Matte Gold.
As an aside, I did a pretty layering with Colorama, but I sure did take some poor photos. I need to work on this. So, just catching up on the Matte Gold iterations.
Here is the Matte Gold in it's original state
The polish predates the current "matte trend" by a few years. At least one or two.
This polish was found at the Dollar Tree and it looked like it had been repackage for the Dollar tree, as well as beyond that sitting in some warm building getting dirty, scratched up, and the polish was separating.
So, before it got to the Dollar Tree, it was sitting in a retail store for a while, until they cleared the shelves.
Well, you get the picture.
Right now, all the big name salon brand polishes are finished rustling out their matte collections, Orly being the last, that I am aware of.
I think it's a little funny to see how sometimes you can jump the gun on a trend and it doesn't seem to fly with the general public.
I am realizing, though, that as a general fashion trend, I am well behind the bell curve on polish as a wide open fun free for all that it's become.
This is good, of course.
I can't complain. I've generally avoided mattes, but these are really nice. I've rounded up a few others off off Ebay, I love the way they dry quickly, wear like iron and to top it all off i can put a top coat on or layer over it and it still doesn't want to give up the ghost.
Here's another photo
I hope that it shows the depth of glitter and fun color of this particular polish.
So, if you have a Dollar Tree, don't ignore the polish! Some polish restorer and you have a Salon polish!
Another Variation
When you have a ton of cheap polish that you find at places like Ross, you kind of go nuts layering them.
I wanted the OPI seasonal gold foil, but it is an Ulta exclusive and I figured, man, there's no Ulta near me, so I made my own.
I really think that there is nothing as nice as a foil. I really don't.
I love creams and I love shimmers.
Heaven knows I love glitter and chrome.
But, there is just that extra bit of bling that is elegant and beautiful. The only other thing that comes close are holos, and holos can be tricky. In natural indoor light they can just sit there an look blah. So they need light.
A good foil will just catch light and play with your mind.
This is a simple recipe:
1 base coat (Borghese Magnito - found at Ross for $1.99, I've never had a problem with this base coat)
2 coats Maybelline Matte Gold - dries fast, adheres well
2 coats Sinful Paris - a yellow gold glitter
2 coats Revlon Sheer Twinkle - whitish creme silvery tiny pieces of glitter? Not sure what the things are, but they are so awesome! Similar to their Glimmer Gloss line, I guess large size shimmer pieces.
1 top coat - Wet n Wild quick drying top coat.
One more photo to see the shiny goodness!
It feels like wearing christmas wrapping paper!
